Some of the children roasted marshmallows around their camp fire, before making a tent out of blankets.  Our children have great imaginations and it’s great to listen to their conversations as they organise or negotiate with each other.

Just a Typical Day!

We're off to a busy start already!  We've been swimming daily and had lessons begin on Wednesday.
Look at the great team work happening, lifting the heavy pallet and running a coffee shop!

It's October already!  Room 1 has expanded as we welcome Ayden, Charlie, Hazel, Izu and Jacklin to school.  Have a look at a few of the activities we did today.  A big thank-you to Grey Valley Play Centre for the loan of their water tray.

Secret Recipe

Jack brought in a secret recipe to share with us!  We made this yummy pudding just before lunch yesterday.  We needed to read the recipe and measure out the ingredients.

Dying Daffodils

Sue brought us some daffodils from her garden yesterday.  We have put some food colouring in the water with them to see what happens.  We think the daffodil will drink up the coloured water and the petals will change to the colour of the water.  We'll let you know what we discover.

Science Experiments

This term we are conducting science experiments each Friday.  We have been working with Mrs Meikle, looking at the reaction between baking soda and vinegar.  We used the gases produced from this reaction to blow up balloons!  We used different sized bottles and noticed that the smaller bottles blew the balloons up more.  (The fire engine in the background was NOT at school because of our experiments!)

Wood Work

Room 1 have some new wood work tools.  We spent some time trying out the tools and figuring out what we could do.  Lots of us showed perseverance with our hammering and sawing.

Measurement

Room 1 have been measuring using non-standard units.  We lay on the ground and marked how tall we are on the carpet with tape.  Jack and Bethany have measured their height using magnetic letters, rulers, sight words and pens.

Buddy Reading

During Term 3 the senior class are coming to visit us for Buddy Reading.  We all have a buddy who we can read with and have stories read to us.  We are doing this each day for 10 minutes after morning tea.

Please let us know if you're having trouble posting a comment.  We are trying to sort this out.

Bubbles

Room 1 blew bubbles and talked about who was in our bubbles during level 4 lockdown.  We wrote about what we enjoyed in our bubbles and what we missed.  Lots of us loved watching movies and missed playing with our friends.

Wonderful Writing

Room 1 were given the challenge of writing a story about the following picture.  They were asked to think about the following:
-What are the dog and owner’s names?
-Where are they going?
-Why did they tie balloons to the dog?
-How does the dog move? Does he kick in the air to move or does the lady pull him?  Maybe he blows off!

Listen to a few of our stories below.

Lexia Legends

It's great to see so many of you spending a little bit of time on Lexia during our lockdown.  Keep it up Room 1.

ANZAC Day

Here are a few ways Room 1 celebrated ANZAC Day.  Mrs Meikle made biscuits, Isla made a fabric wreath, and Aubree and her sister Bella made recycled poppies for outside.
