End of week 2!

These first two weeks we have been getting back into our routines.
Week 2 we started our daily homework and Murtle's visits home. Next week we start our sharing around the letter or blend of the week.

Last week Room 1 started with our greeting for the week in Te Reo, this was Kia Ora.

Next week we will have the Spanish greeting Ola.

In week 1 we made some progress on our topic wall. The children made leaves to go on the huge beanstalk after reading Jack and the Beanstalk. We had a huge discussion on what might have happened to Jack and his mum if the magic beans hadn't grown. Watch this space for some creative writing in that direction!

Next we plan to add some of the Fairy-tale characters that we will be studying.

At the end of May, Awahono School will be having it's annual Fun Run. To be ready for this, Room 1 has started having a practice run every morning. So far the weather has been kind to us and we haven't missed a day.
Here is Room 1 warming up for our run.

Week 2 was Road Safety week. Room 1 was learning about crossing the road safely. The children each made a picture about where was the safest place to walk or ride a bike by the road. They then stuck all their pictures onto a poster to share.

The end of week 2 was busy with making Mothers Day cards for the lovely, hard working mums of the children in Room 2. Lots of love and effort went into the great cards the children made.

Happy Mothers Day to all our mums this Sunday!

Next Thursday is Support Staff Day. We are really grateful to all our support staff. They do an awesome job supporting the students and teachers.

Welcome back to Term 2!

Welcome back everyone, Murtle and I hope you all had a good holiday and a good rest!
We are going to have a fun filled term of reading, writing, maths, art and school wide activities.

This term we will be preparing for our school production. This works in with our class topic which is learning about Fairy-tales.

We will be learning about the morals behind fairy tales, the structure and are going to try writing some of our own.

Our class novel this term is The Magic Finger. Last term we had lots of great writing done around George's Marvellous Medicine and fun making things to go in our own medicine. I'm looking forward to The Magic Finger doing the same for our imagination!

In week 2, Murtle the turtle will begin making visits home again. He has now got a new bag as his old bag was worn out. Homework will start this week as well.

I am looking forward to seeing all of those smiley faces Monday at school. Have a great weekend every one!

We are racing through Term 3!

Out topic this term is about Poutini the Taniwha who swims up and down the West Coast.
The children produced some great Taniwha art work to brighten up the classroom.

We also co-wrote a poem about Poutini snatching Waitaki and running away from Taamahua.

Our sharing is still continuing to be very popular with the children. They look forward to their sharing each week.

Last week Mrs Ealam took both Room 1 and Room 2 on the teachers CRT day. She and the children worked hard on a beautiful mosaic art mural about pollution in the sea.
